Choosing the right location is one of the most important parts of planning a photo session.
All of my sessions take place outdoors, and that’s a very intentional choice. Natural light, open space, and fresh air allow people to move, connect, and feel more at ease. But choosing a photo session location isn’t just about what looks good—it’s about how it feels.
When I help clients choose a photo session location, I consider several factors: vibe, safety, potential distractions, and how the space supports the type of session you’re booking. A great location should feel comfortable, allow for movement, and match your energy—whether that’s quiet and natural or bold and urban.
Time plays a role as well. A standard 45-minute session allows for settling in, variety, and flexibility. Mini sessions, typically around 15 minutes, are wonderful for quick updates but work best in simple locations with minimal distractions.
We’ll always talk through what kind of session you’re planning and choose a location that supports it. The right environment helps everything else fall into place—and allows your images to feel natural, unforced, and true to you.
Some of my favorite places in Frederick County are various ones around my community of Lake Linganore and Baker Park in downtown Frederick. I also love downtown Frederick and downtown New Market for a great backdrop of various textures and backgrounds.

You can suggest your own location — especially if you have a place that means something to y’all — or I can share some of my favorite places with you. I usually do a scan of potential places in the week leading up to our session — checking the terrain, the lighting at the time of our session and other details to make sure things are just perfect for your session.
