I love in-home lifestyle newborn sessions. They’re as easy as possible for tired and overwhelmed new parents. You don’t have to pack up Baby or clothes. No supplies have to be gathered. And you definitely don’t have to get in the car, travel, spend hours somewhere else or anything like that. I come to you!

There is barely anything that has to be done ahead of time for in-home lifestyle newborn sessions. And, most of my newborn session clients say that the experience was super easy for them.

Here are a few tips, though, to keep it as easy and comfortable as possible!

Schedule tentative date and then tweak time

Newborn sessions are best done between 7 and 12 days after Baby is born. We can go off of your due date if you want to schedule well in advance or we can schedule after Baby is born. When it comes to the time ,I recommend we give you a day or two to see what Baby’s schedule is like at home, when you have most energy, etc.

Find two bright, clean nooks in your home

You don’t need to do a deep clean of your whole house. I won’t notice or care about any messes or piles! I definitely remember the chaotic first few weeks… months… at home with my babies. All we need are two bright and clutter-free corners in your home. Usually, the living room couch or your master bedroom bed or the nursery are the most common places chosen for newborn sessions. Somewhere near a window or natural light will be great.

Plan a couple of outfits!

We can move quickly and switch outfits during the session — for you and for Baby. I love doing a few photos of Baby without a shirt or pants on (baby toes! Chins! Wrinkles!) but beyond that you can choose an outfit that has special significance or an outfit in a favorite color — whatever you want!

Breaks are fine!

I schedule a couple of hours for our session but that’s really only to allow us time for things like outfit changes, feeding breaks, diaper changes and little breaks.

In-home newborn lifestyle sessions capture you and Baby in your cozy home environment and at a slow, easy pace. I want you to always be comfortable and I want us to capture some of those real moments in these first few special weeks.
