If you’ve been following my journey these past few years, you’ve seen a lot about my work with, love of and support for the National Down Syndrome Society.
NDSS is the first place I found comfort and resources after Zach was born and we received his diagnosis of Down Syndrome. They offered me peace of mind and a sense that we were not alone.
In 2015, I began photographing for them and in dozens of events throughout the past few years, I have made so many cherished friends, been encouraged by countless inspirational advocates and self-advocates and have been able to tell stories of hope and ability through images.
While I love all of the NDSS events, being asked to photograph and attend their annual fundraising gala and silent auction event in New York City each winter is really special. There’s always an element of fun to getting dolled up and all fancied up and to get some time alone with the hubby or supporting loved ones who join us. But, beyond that, I also really love this event not only for the generous spirit of all of the attendees and the fact that we raise so much money for future NDSS events but also for the incredible guests who take part in the event.
I love hearing about NDSS’s plans for the year and love celebrating their honorees who have made an incredible impact on the advocacy world in the past few months.
There are laughs, tears, dancing and love. Here’s a peek into all of it. Enjoy!
