When Missy first asked me about photographing her wedding to Aaron, she was so very sweet and complimentary about my portfolio but kept warning me, “We’re not doing what most people do.”
From the beginning of planning, Missy and Aaron just wanted their day to be simple and very much “them.” A big fluffy dress and reception hall just aren’t what the two of them are about and so, on a cool, beautiful September day, their loved ones gathered on the more than 100 acres where Missy and Aaron live.
Their three horses greeted guests as they walked to the ceremony site. Flowers grown on the property were used for Missy’s bouquet. The ceremony was officiated by one of Missy’s brothers. When Missy was escorted by her dad, she wore a simple white crochet dress that was a free gift from a friend. Every detail was incredibly intimate and personal and oh-so-beautiful.
We stood in dense forests of tall pines and alongside a hand-crafted wooden cross erected by loved ones the day before. The dance floor was underneath a tent just behind their barn and was packed with nearly every single wedding guest as they gathered around Missy and Aaron with love and joy.
Missy and Aaron definitely didn’t do what most people do — and it created a real, genuine, significant day that was all about the two of them and their huge, tangible love. It was a wedding day that I’ll never forget.
Enjoy this peek into their day!
And future couples: Remember to stay true to YOU, whatever that looks like or feels like. <3
