When Caroline’s mom reached out to me, she said she wanted to be sure that they had memories of every stage of Caroline’s ever-changing life and personality and really wanted me to capture her as she was about to turn one.

Caroline is adorable but also very curious, smart, funny and sweet. When I met her and her parents at their Frederick, Maryland, home, she was fascinated by my shoes, my bag and definitely my camera. We spent a lot of time looking at the photos of her on the back of my camera.

In-home photo sessions are so low-key and comfortable — everyone is in their own space and the youngest kiddos do great with all of their toys and familiar items nearby.

For most of the session, we split up more-posed photos with chances to just capture Caroline doing exactly what she would normally be doing — looking at her books, pushing a shopping cart, taking cautious steps across the living room.

My favorite photos were the snuggles with her parents. She just loves those hugs! Near the end of the session, we went outside to a nearby playground where they lived and captured some fun outdoor moments of playing and exploring, too.
